Many companies offer employees a one-off fee to set up the home office. This varies enormously. The Dutch government offers civil servants around €750 (Dutch language source), but I also know of companies where employees can get their office chair or adjustable table reimbursed without a limit. Most companies I speak to give their employees a work from home allowance of around €400.
Many employees who work remotely (hybrid, or from home) believe that to work responsibly from home, you need all kinds of ergonomic accessories. Height-adjustable tables and office chairs simply don’t fit in many homes. And they are, in my opinion, mostly unnecessary.
Many of my clients – including some of the biggest clients I have – have realised this too. They save a lot of money by having me determine what an employee really needs to work healthily during an online ergonomic workstation assessment.
On a bar stool at the kitchen table, on the floor, or even (in moderation) on the sofa, you can also do screen work just fine. As long as you know how to sit. I convey this during the workplace assessments I do. I look and think with everyone I speak to, and give advice based on their personal situation.
A 45-minute (online) workstation assessment costs €100 (including report). I am convinced that this investment pays for itself as companies need to invest far less in ergonomic aids such as tables and chairs when they work with me.
